12 Step Calls: When alcoholics call the AA hotline asking for help, the Intergroup Office reaches out to A.A. members on our 12th Step List. Having a phone contact helps newcomers know they are not alone. Your responsibility: Call the newcomer right away. Share your experience, strength, and hope. Convey that help is available in A.A. Anything else is up to your discretion. Having a phone contact helps newcomers know they are not alone.
Bridging the Gap: When alcoholics are released from treatment facilities or institutions, they need a Temporary Contact as a link between treatment and recovery. Your responsibility: Call the newcomer right away. Share your experience, strength, and hope. Act as a temporary contact for a week or more. Meet the newcomer at meetings and introduce them to other A.A. members so they can form a network to stay sober.
